Lost Your Car Key? We Come to You

Call Now +1 (941) 844 8888

Wherever you are in the Venice area, we come to you. Your driveway, a parking lot, your workplace, or the side of the road.

Everything we need is already in our working van. We have the blanks, the cutting machine, and the programming gear.

If you go the dealership route, it usually means you have to tow your car, schedule an appointment a few days ahead, and get a bill that can surprise you.

Tell us the year, make and model when you call and we will bring what your vehicle needs on the first trip.

Car Key Replacement

Most people call us for one of three reasons. The key is lost, and there is no spare. The key either snapped or stopped working, and as a result, the car won't start. Or the keys were stolen, in which case the old ones need to stop working entirely.

Any of those means a new key made from scratch. We cut it using your vehicle identification number, pull the security data from the car's computer, and program it to the immobilizer so the engine turns over.

We can also erase the old keys from the system, which matters if yours were stolen rather than misplaced.

You will need photo ID and proof that the car is yours.

Car Key Duplication

Driving on one key? Get a second one made before something happens to it.

Here is why. With a key in hand, a copy is quick and cheap. Once that last key is gone, we are building one from nothing, and it costs about double.

Most people get a spare when a kid starts driving, when two people share a car, or when they finally get tired of worrying about it.

The second key is 50% off if you get two at once.

Transponder Key Programming

Ever had a copy made at a hardware store and the doors opened but the car would not start? That is the chip.

Pretty much every car from the last twenty five years has one hidden in the key. The car looks for it before it lets the engine turn over, and a plain metal copy has nothing to show it.

We program the chip so the key actually works. Older cars are quick. Newer ones take a while longer.

Key Fob Programming

There are several reasons why fobs break, and most of them are easily fixed.

Usually it is the battery. If you have noticed yourself standing closer to the car each week, that is what is happening.

Sometimes the fob just loses touch with the car. This can happen after a dead battery, after certain repairs, or if it gets wet. That one only needs reprogramming.

Sometimes the fob is actually finished. Before you spend money on a new one, we will let you know which one you are dealing with.

Remote Key Programming

Trunk, panic, lock, unlock, and remote start. Each of those needs to be connected to your vehicle independently.

We handle both factory and most aftermarket remote controls. Did you purchase one online, but it didn't work? Before you give up on it, bring it out so we can examine it.

We check every button before we leave, not just the one you use.

Push to Start and Proximity Keys

Keyless cars use a fob that just sits in your pocket and communicates to the car.

No blade to cut, so people assume it is easier. It is not. The programming takes longer, and the fobs themselves cost more.

We do these for most makes, including when every fob is gone.

Ignition Repair and Replacement

The key goes in fine but will not turn? That is usually the ignition, not the key.

Cylinders wear out over time. It happens faster if you have been driving around with a heavy keyring hanging off the ignition, because all that weight slowly pulls things out of line.

The first sign is that you have to jiggle the key. It gets worse from there, and it usually ends with a key stuck or snapped off in the cylinder.

We rebuild or replace it and match it to your existing key when the car allows, so you don’t have to carry two.

Motorcycle Key Replacement

We cut and program motorcycle keys, chipped keys included on the newer models. Same as with cars, we come to the bike rather than the other way around, which matters when there is no way to ride it anywhere.

Call with the make, model and year and we will bring the right blank.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost of a duplicate car key?

With us it runs $95 to $125 for a standard duplicate. A transponder chip key is $120 to $180, and a push to start fob is $140 to $220. Right now the second key is half price when you order two at once, which is the cheapest way to end up with a spare.

Can you program car keys yourself?

A few older vehicles have an onboard procedure in the owner's manual that lets you pair a spare yourself, but it only works if you already have two working keys. Everything else needs equipment that plugs into the car and talks to its computer. That is what we bring.

How much does it cost to program a key for a car?

Fob and remote programming runs $95 to $145. Transponder programming is $120 to $180, and push-to-start is $140 to $220. If you already bought a key or fob and just need it paired, call and tell us what you have, since that changes the price.

Can I replace my car key myself?

You can buy a blank online, but a blank is not a key. It still has to be cut to your specific lock pattern and programmed to your car, and both take equipment most people do not have at home. People often spend money on a fob first and then call us anyway. Ask before you buy, and we will tell you what will actually work.

Can I start my push start car without a key?

If the fob battery died, most cars have a backup. Usually you hold the fob directly against the start button or a marked spot on the steering column so the car can read it up close. Your owner's manual shows the exact spot. That is a battery workaround though, not a substitute for a key. If the fob itself has failed, you need a new one programmed.

Can a locksmith program a new ignition?

Yes. We replace or rebuild the ignition cylinder and program the new setup to your car. Where the vehicle allows it, we match the new ignition to your existing key so you are not carrying two different keys around. Ignition work runs $250 to $450 depending on the vehicle.

Can you start an ignition without a key?

Not the way people mean when they ask. Cars built in the last twenty five years have an immobilizer that will not let the engine run without a programmed key present, and bypassing that is not something we do. What we do instead is make you a real key, on site, that works properly every time.

What do I do if I lost the key to my motorcycle?

Same as a car. We come to wherever the bike is parked and cut a new key, including chipped keys on newer models. You cannot exactly ride it to a shop, so this is a job that has to come to you.
